Acupuncture is a system of healing that encompasses the entire person in its quest for health and wellbeing. In its balanced state, each individual is in perfect health. However, due to many environmental stressors the body can fall out of balance allowing for disease to occur. This happens because the qi or “life force “that flows throughout our body can become disrupted. Qi circulates throughout our body along well defined pathways, energetically connecting physiological systems and internal organs. Therefore any interruption in this flow creates an imbalance and may result in pain or illness.
Acupuncture involves inserting extremely fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body. It produces therapeutic effects by stimulating the body’s own repair mechanism therefore promoting the healing process. Acupuncture improves circulation while bringing important nutrients throughout the body.

What to expect during a session:
Since Eastern medicine is a holistic healing art, your acupuncturist will do a very thorough interview. You will be asked about various aspects of your mind and body. Afterwards the acupuncturist may ask to look at your tongue, read your pulse and look for sensitive areas on your body. After all of the information is obtained, a diagnosis is made along with a treatment specialized for your condition. Acupuncture is virtually painless. In fact, many patients find the treatments to be relaxing and calming.
How many treatments are necessary:
Many patients feel relief after the first visit, however your acupuncturist may recommend a series of treatments to achieve lasting results. Once the desired effect is achieved, it may be necessary to come in for regular treatments for prevention and general body balancing.
